Port 8649 is used by Ganglia, a scalable distributed monitoring system designed for high-performance computing clusters. Ganglia daemons (gmond) use this port to multicast and unicast metrics between cluster nodes. Ganglia metadata is collected and aggregated by the Ganglia Metadata Daemon (gmetad) for visualization in the Ganglia web interface.
