UDP — System & Infrastructure
Port Overview
What is Port 1900?
Port 1900 is used by Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP), the foundation for Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) device discovery. Smart TVs, routers, game consoles, and IoT devices use SSDP to advertise and discover services on local networks. This port has been exploited for amplification DDoS attacks when exposed to the internet.
Security Considerations
Port 1900 (SSDP / UPnP) is classified as high risk. This port is a common target for automated scanning and brute-force attacks. If you must expose it, restrict access to known IP addresses.
Recommendation: Use firewall rules to whitelist trusted IPs. Enable rate limiting and intrusion detection.
