Port Overview
What is Port 1985?
Port 1985 is used by Cisco Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP) for first-hop redundancy. HSRP allows multiple routers to present a virtual IP and MAC address, providing automatic failover if the active router fails. It is a fundamental protocol in highly available Cisco network designs.
Security Considerations
Port 1985 (Cisco HSRP) is classified as medium risk. While this service is commonly exposed, consider using encrypted alternatives where available.
Recommendation: Keep the service updated. Monitor logs for unusual activity.
