Port Overview
What is Port 3128?
Port 3128 is the default port for Squid, a widely used caching and forwarding HTTP web proxy. Organizations use Squid to cache web content, control internet access, and improve performance. Open proxy servers on this port are frequently abused for anonymous browsing and malicious traffic routing.
Security Considerations
Port 3128 (Squid HTTP Proxy) is classified as high risk. This port is a common target for automated scanning and brute-force attacks. If you must expose it, restrict access to known IP addresses.
Recommendation: Use firewall rules to whitelist trusted IPs. Enable rate limiting and intrusion detection.
