Port Overview
What is Port 4022?
Port 4022 is used by Microsoft SQL Server for database mirroring endpoints and Service Broker communications. It serves as the endpoint for high-availability features including database mirroring and Always On Availability Groups in SQL Server. Exposure of this port outside trusted networks poses significant database security risks.
Security Considerations
Port 4022 (SQL Server Debug) is classified as high risk. This port is a common target for automated scanning and brute-force attacks. If you must expose it, restrict access to known IP addresses.
Recommendation: Use firewall rules to whitelist trusted IPs. Enable rate limiting and intrusion detection.
