Port Overview
What is Port 4369?
Port 4369 is used by EPMD (Erlang Port Mapper Daemon), a port mapper service for Erlang/OTP distributed systems. RabbitMQ and other Erlang-based applications rely on EPMD for node discovery and cluster formation. Exposure of this port can allow attackers to enumerate Erlang cluster nodes and potentially join the cluster.
Security Considerations
Port 4369 (EPMD (Erlang Port Mapper)) is classified as high risk. This port is a common target for automated scanning and brute-force attacks. If you must expose it, restrict access to known IP addresses.
Recommendation: Use firewall rules to whitelist trusted IPs. Enable rate limiting and intrusion detection.
