Port Overview
What is Port 5001?
Port 5001 is used by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) for HTTPS management access, and by iperf network performance testing tool. Synology NAS devices use this port for secure web-based administration. The iperf tool uses this port by default for bandwidth measurement between network endpoints.
Security Considerations
Port 5001 (Synology DSM / iperf) is classified as medium risk. While this service is commonly exposed, consider using encrypted alternatives where available.
Recommendation: Keep the service updated. Monitor logs for unusual activity.
