Port Overview
What is Port 515?
Port 515 is assigned to LPD/LPR (Line Printer Daemon), the traditional Unix printing protocol defined in RFC 1179. Still widely supported by network printers. No authentication.
Security Considerations
Port 515 (LPD) is classified as high risk. This port is a common target for automated scanning and brute-force attacks. If you must expose it, restrict access to known IP addresses.
Recommendation: Use firewall rules to whitelist trusted IPs. Enable rate limiting and intrusion detection.
