Port Overview
What is Port 7000?
Port 7000 is used by Apache Cassandra for internode cluster communication (non-SSL). Cassandra nodes in a cluster use this port to exchange gossip protocol messages, repair operations, and streaming data for node bootstrapping. Exposing this port to untrusted networks can allow unauthorized nodes to join the Cassandra cluster.
Security Considerations
Port 7000 (Cassandra Internode) is classified as high risk. This port is a common target for automated scanning and brute-force attacks. If you must expose it, restrict access to known IP addresses.
Recommendation: Use firewall rules to whitelist trusted IPs. Enable rate limiting and intrusion detection.
