Port Overview
What is Port 31337?
Historically associated with Back Orifice, a controversial remote administration tool / trojan from 1998 by Cult of the Dead Cow. The number 31337 represents the hacker slang 'eleet' (elite). Finding this port open is a strong indicator of compromise.
Security Considerations
Port 31337 (Back Orifice / Elite) is classified as critical risk. This port should not be exposed to the public internet. The service transmits data without encryption, making it vulnerable to eavesdropping, credential theft, and man-in-the-middle attacks.
Recommendation: Block this port at the firewall. Use encrypted alternatives (SSH, SFTP, HTTPS) instead.
