Port Overview
What is Port 9001?
Port 9001 is the default OR (onion router) port used by Tor network relay nodes to accept encrypted connections from other Tor nodes and clients. It is also used by Supervisor, a process control system for Unix, for its XML-RPC management interface. The presence of this port may indicate a Tor relay or exit node is running.
Security Considerations
Port 9001 (Tor ORPort / Supervisor) is classified as medium risk. While this service is commonly exposed, consider using encrypted alternatives where available.
Recommendation: Keep the service updated. Monitor logs for unusual activity.
