Port Overview
What is Port 9050?
Port 9050 is the default SOCKS5 proxy port for the Tor client, allowing local applications to route their traffic through the Tor anonymity network. Applications configured to use SOCKS5 on 127.0.0.1:9050 will have their connections anonymized through Tor's onion routing. This port is only accessible locally by default in standard Tor configurations.
Security Considerations
Port 9050 (Tor SOCKS Proxy) is classified as medium risk. While this service is commonly exposed, consider using encrypted alternatives where available.
Recommendation: Keep the service updated. Monitor logs for unusual activity.
